Chemin de Fer Essential Basics – Part 2

We resume our article on the abc’s of black jack. In Part 1 we reviewed the basis of chemin de fer, taking another card, standing and how to double down. In part 2 we will discuss splitting, surrendering and insurance.

Split: if a gambler is handed 2 cards of the same amount (2 eights for example) the gambler may split them to create 2 different hands. If you choose to split your hand you will need to lay a new wager equal to the initial wager.

Surrender: A few betting houses will let gamblers to surrender the hand they have been handed along with half of the initial wager they placed before the dealer looking at his hand. Keep in mind it’s important to inquire with the dealer for clarification on the table rules or look at the game rules area on the internet casino you are gambling on.

Insurance: When the croupiers face up card is an Ace players have the ability to take out insurance. You will place half of the original bet before the dealer looks at his cards; if the croupier has twenty-one you’ll come away with a win on the insurance bet but still lose the initial wager. Unfortunately if the croupier doesn’t have chemin de fer the player loses the insurance. It’s a risk but one that’s well worth it, if used as part of a clever tactic.

Once a gambler has stayed or gone bust by going over twenty-one the dealer will show their hand and will continue to deal themselves cards until one of the following events has appeared: if they have surpassed seventeen, a croupier won’t normally draw another card because of the possibility of going bust, if they have drawn twenty one or if he has busted.
